Holiday Feelings
(2015)
Participatory and immersive installation
Collaborative project with Kieran Bryant and Lachlan Herd of 110% for Underbelly Arts Festival, Cockatoo Island, Sydney, July-August 2015.
Holiday Feelings was re-presented as part of the Reckless Acts program at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, January 2017.
Holiday Feelings explores the relationship between the pursuit of leisure and the appreciation of art. For this project, 110% constructed an oasis of relaxation and reflection in an old convict workshop on Cockatoo Island, Sydney Harbour. Festival audiences were encouraged to spend time in the space reclining, reflecting and refreshing themselves through interaction with lounging apparatus, water features, hot towel facials and soothing audio-visual projections. This relaxation room was paired with a series of guided leisure tours of the festival and island site, facilitated by 110% and a team of volunteer hosts. Through the presentation of these tours and relaxation room, 110% offered the visiting public an environment of leisure from which art grew.
Music by Becky Sui Zhen with James Grant and Alec Marshall.
Presented with the generous assistance of Leisure Oasis hosts Amy Mills, Cee Powell, Shahmen Suku, Kate Stodart, Steph Clark, Alice Joel, Joe Pol, Harrison Witsey, Leila El Rayes.
This project received funding from Creative Partnerships Australia and NAVA.
